Holy Spirit Parish History

1979 - Bishop Kenneth Povish appoints Fr. Charles Irvin to establish a new parish in southeast Livingston County. Masses begin at the VFW hall on Spicer Road. "Church of the Holy Spirit" is chosen as our name.

1980 - Bishop Povish receives the title to our building site from Mrs. Beatrice Hruska

1981 - Ground breaking ceremony for the Parish Center (now the Activities Center). Later in the year Bishop Povish celebrates the Mass of Dedication of our new building

1982 - Bell Tower Erected

1987 - Fr. Paul Cummings is appointed pastor. "Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church" became the official name of our parish

1992 - Construction of our sanctuary is completed.  Fr. Paul and Fr. Charlie concelebrate the Mass of Dedication with Bishop Povish. Fr. Paul oversees the opening of the Book and Gift Shop

1996 - Bishop Carl Mengeling appoints Fr. Timothy Krzyzaniak as pastor

1997 - Knights of Columbus Council 7891 is established. Grotto to our Blessed Mother dedicated (with school building construction, this grotto was dismantled in 2014)

1998 - Dedication of the Memorial to the Unborn (later relocated to the cemetery)

1999 - Fr. William Thomas is appointed as pastor

2002 - Holy Spirit School opens

2003 - Perpetual exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament begins

2005 - Fr. Steve Makranyi is appointed as our Canonical Administrator and the parish cemetery is opened

2007 - Bishop Mengeling appoints Fr. John Rocus as our new pastor

2008 - The first display of the Shroud of Turin exhibit at Holy Spirit

2012 - Dine With Jesus sculpture is erected in the Serenity Court

2015 - Bishop Earl Boyea dedicates the new school building

2017 - The Trinity Trail prayer path is established

2019 - Holy Spirit Parish celebrates our 40th anniversary

2020 - Ms. Gwenis Laura became principal of our school just before the pandemic. Our school swiftly moved into remote learning and the students and teachers were able to complete the school year without skipping a beat. School opened in September for in-person instruction and remained that way

2022 - Holy Spirit School celebrates our 20th anniversary
2024 - Fr. John Rocus retired after serving as pastor for over 16 years. On July 3, Fr. Jonathan Perrotta became our new pastor.
