The Journey to Becoming Catholic

Are you interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith?

God may be calling you to join OCIA!

OCIA Summer and Fall Classes Forming Now

OCIA classes are for anyone who is considering becoming Catholic, for those who are Catholic but have not completed the Sacraments of Initiation, and also for those Catholics who would just like to learn more about the faith. Everyone is welcome!

This year's OCIA classes are forming now. Contact Mary Anne Bastian for more information. mabastian@holyspiritrcs.org

Who is OCIA for?

Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic Church and who Jesus really is.

This includes:

  • The unbaptized (Catechumens)

  • Those baptized in another Christian tradition (Candidates)

  • Those who are baptized Catholic but have not yet received all the Sacraments of Initiation (Candidates)

  • Those in the Catholic Church who would just like to learn more about the Catholic faith

  • Anyone looking for peace, needing hope and wanting to feel the love of God

What is OCIA?

There are four basic steps of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) process.

  1. Precatechumenate or Inquiry period – A time for inquiry and evangelization, an opportunity for the beginnings of faith

  2. Catechumenate – An extended period for pastoral formation and guidance on the Christian life

  3. Purification and Enlightenment – Coinciding with Lent, this period is intended to enlighten the minds and hearts of participants with a deeper knowledge of Christ the Savior

  4. Mystagogy – A time for spiritual growth and for entering more fully into the life and unity of the community.

What Else Do You Need to Know?

Sessions meet on Sundays from 12:15pm to approximately 1:30pm throughout the year.  There is a series of blessings along the way for those seeking Baptism, and sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil, Pentecost and Christ the King as needed.  It is then that those who wish to becoming Catholic are brought into full communion with the Church.

Where Do You Begin?

You begin right now, right where you are.  We are all on different places on the same path, moving toward our goal of union with God in heaven.
